Foodstuff:
- We would also suggest bringing some of your favorite breakfast items: granola bars, instant oatmeal, cereal bars, etc.
- If you have specific questions about available foods, just ask.
Packing information:
- You need to get all of your clothing stuff in a medium to large size backpack (3500 cubic in) or duffle bag. If you can't get it all in that... then you've got too much! You will be able to wash almost everyday (you will be washing by hand). Bringing less is always better.
- Due to Asian airline weight restrictions, your checked baggage should not weigh more than 15 kilos (33 lbs). If it does, you will have to pay overage on your round trip flight from Manila to your final destination. Your carry-on should not weigh more than 7 kilos (15.4 lbs). Most Asian airlines will weigh this to make sure it is not too heavy.
- You can buy personal hygiene items here to lighten your load in packing: shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.
General guidelines for clothing:
- Team members will wear long pants & clean shirts during ministry time.
- Sleeveless shirts are not permitted for guys or girls. (This includes tank tops.)
- Female team members should wear dark colored clothing when bathing.
- No shirts that are tight fitting or expose the midriff.
- No military-type clothing or accessories.
- Girls swimsuits should be very modest. They should not have a low or V-type neck.
- If you not sure if something would be appropriate (especially if you're in a very conservative culture) please ask your local supervisor before coming or just chose to leave it at home.
Equipment reminders:
All voltage in Asia is 220v. Check your equipment- camera, computer, etc. to make sure it has "universal" or dual voltage (100v-240v). The power source should tell you this.
Wireless internet is available in some of the larger cities. Most of your online work will be done in internet cafes. You'll hook up to their internet lines and pay an hourly rate (around $.50/hr.)
To save time & extra expense, bring any needed adapters with you. Most outlets here are just 2-prong. If your power supply has a 3-prong plug you'll need an adapter.
