I am Luigi Almine, and I am 31 years old. I grew up in Lingayao, a rural village in the Philippines. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in 2010. Afterwards, I worked as a program assistant for a micro-financing company in Butuan City. I found myself not satisfied and not happy with the new job, and I sensed the Lord was leading me to join in missions. So, I resigned from my job and trusted God to provide for my needs.
From the time I was in sixth grade through high school, I remember our village had missionary visitors. They gave out Bibles, presented a drama, and shared about Jesus. I heard the Good News for the first time; I desired to follow Jesus and to know him more.
I first volunteered in 2011 as a national partner for American Nehemiah Teams on the riverboat team reaching the Waray-waray tribe. Through this mission, the Lord taught me that billions of people are still lost without hearing the Good News about Jesus. In 2012, I joined the Nehemiah Teams Advance Operation Training (AOT) in Davao City, Philippines. My life turned upside down, and I gave up my temporary ambitions and found the purpose of my life: to serve Christ as my Lord and make Him known to all nations.
Since 2012, I committed to stay on the mission field partnering with other missionaries, Nehemiah Teams and student volunteers to start churches among the Waray-waray tribe and other unreached people groups. I helped in mobilizing individuals, youth groups, pastors and churches to join in missions and helped start a local Nehemiah Teams “franchise” in Samar-Leyte. I have also been to Indonesia and Thailand to the Asia Pacific Baptist Youth Fellowship conferences and have had the opportunity to mobilize and witness. In 2016, I went to Nepal to help start Nepali Nehemiah Teams and serve as a field coach representative of Nehemiah Teams.
In November of 2016, I married a beautiful and talented woman, Kari Walton. Kari has served three times in summer missions through Nehemiah Teams in Southeast Asia since 2011. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education and volunteered as teacher at Faith International Academy in the Philippines in January 2015- May 2016. She is now a teacher at a local public school. We are currently living on the Nehemiah Teams AOT training site where I will be serving as a trainer for American AOT. We look forward to serving the Lord overseas again in the future.
