FOR ALL TEAMS your first stop will be a joint orientation with other Nehemiah Teams, learning the skills you need to carry out your assignment. You will then travel to the field to spend your summer carrying out the task you've prepared for. At the end of the summer, travel back to a joint debrief, sharing all that God has done. It is expected that all teams members attend the complete orientation & debrief.

In our province, the total population is 3.7 million people with only 2.4% of them identifying as Evangelical Christian. Additionally, there is a huge student population because there are over 100 universities in the province, providing many opportunities for college students from the States to engage Indonesian college students. However, evangelism engagement will not only be limited to college students as the city affords many other opportunities to engage people on the streets. The team will primarily look for opportunities to evangelize English-speaking nationals in local coffee shops and cafes, in roadside food stalls, parks, and other public places where people tend to gather throughout the province. Additionally, team members may also have opportunities to share testimonies and/or short devotional teachings in local churches and/or at campus ministry gatherings located throughout the province. We are not looking for “experts” but rather people who are humbly willing to serve, willing to be learn, willing to faithfully proclaim the gospel and willing to intercede on behalf of those who are desperately lost in our province. Outside of evangelism and prayer walking, the team will have other opportunities to partner with other local ministries, explore the province, learn about local history and culture, and see many historical sites. Come and join a team in a least reached area of Southeast Asia. Soccer, basketball, and other local sports are a great way to engage with people and that is exactly what this couple is doing! While there, learn about the worldview, build goodwill, and see how long-term missionaries engage people with the gospel. You'll be "roughin' it" for a reason. An opportunity has opened through sports and education to enter an area of Southeast Asia that has previously been unengaged with the Gospel. The smallest and poorest province in this Southeast Asian country is undergoing development in the main center yet the rural districts remain much the same as they have for centuries. A couple has gained access to this area through their sports and English Center. The primary goal for NT would be assisting this couple in running and maintaining this business platform. The 2 main projects for the summer will be organizing ongoing sports activities as well as teaching English to local youth. Additional goals would include prayer walking, ministry trainings, building relationships with national partners, learning about worldview, and building goodwill in the community. Team members will be focused on walking in the Spirit, praying diligently, boldly sowing the Gospel using a method called Any3, working alongside of National Believers, finding areas of receptivity to the Gospel, and making disciples on university campuses in a large city. Though the majority would claim to be Muslims, many of them are nominal and secular in their practice. Students will find opportunities to use English, as many people love to meet foreigners which then becomes an open door to share the good news. It can be difficult to get deeper in spiritual conversations using English only, so partnering with National Believers is a must. Common places to meet people include restaurants and cafes, campus food courts and just walking onto and through various university campuses. There are several recreational and tourist areas that can be enjoyed and provide opportunity to meet people and share good news as well. SUMMER BY THE SEA54125 Team of 4 2 students assigned

The participants will spend their time travelling around the capital city of our state in North Borneo focusing on an Unreached People Group. They will be involved in Evangelism, Prayer, and Media Distribution. We do our ministry through a platform business. This includes marketing locally made fashion products, such as bags, clothes and accessories, which generates money for community development. All of this is to open doors so we can share Christ in the villages. Come ready to use your gifts and experiences to share the Gospel with those who need Christ. This People Group is located around the islands and coast of North Borneo and they have limited access to the gospel. Boldness, wisdom, and sensitivity to the Spirit will be needed as the teams share their faith. Flexibility is also important as there may be opportunities to experience a wide variety of activities in the new culture. Students will stay in backpacker hostels and budget hotels. There are fast food chains here, but you will enjoy eating and learning about the local foods. You will be based in the capital city. However, close to the city and down the coastline there are many unreached villages that you will have access to. Come invest your time in an area that is truly unreached and needs your presence. Field cost: $1785 plus roundtrip airfare, passport costs, required travel insurance, immunizations, etc. Located on the equator, your team will be opening new contacts and sharing avenues for a team of national partners who have an established ministry in the city. You will participate in a college-aged discipleship movement called Simply Church/Simply Fellowship, where you will be tasked with mobilizing them to sharing with others and possibly assisting in setting up new Simply Church/Simply Fellowship networks in other areas outside the city. The team's main focus will be making new friends through English Club, or local University campuses and through translators, sharing the gospel as the opportunity presents itself. You will play an integral part of this newly formed team to build bridges, pathways and connections into the youth segments and University populations. You will get around on motorcycle taxies, spend late nights talking to new friends, play futsal or badminton with new friends, and share the gospel as often as you are able. Locally, there are two main people groups but the segment of the city you are making connections with will also include people from other populations and people groups throughout the eastern part of the country. You will help us engage college students and young adults through sports like volleyball, basketball, and badminton along with hosting English Nights. Although you will serve on a Hindu island, the area you will be serving has multiple colleges that people from neighboring islands will travel to for education. You have the chance to not just share the Good News with one people group, but people from multiple people groups, backgrounds, and islands – all through sports and English! Your days will be spent in various activities in the city with the goal of intentionally meeting people, sharing Truth, and following up with Gospel conversations. You will also host English nights for college students who want to practice English as an opportunity to build bridges in their lives. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Why would such an assertion be made? The city, and the entire island, is a Christian stronghold in a country lost in darkness. As the ocean waters that surround the 17,000 islands of this archipelago nation, so too darkness is deep, cold, and can rise to tsunami-like waves among the hundreds of tribes located throughout the country. But, the Light of the world told His followers to let their Light shine in the darkness, and the darkness shall not overcome it. Light always wins. THIS is a city of Light. But we have a problem. Like a soot-filled globe can snuff the light from a beautiful lamp, the Light in the city has dimmed. Not because the Source of the Light has faltered. Jesus never fails! The vessels—the lamps—who carry the Light have dimmed the power and beauty and glory of the Light of the world through distraction, apathy, sin, and rebellion. What to do? Come. Shine the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ into the dimmed lamps here. Revive the fire. Turn the dimmer switch to full light. Help awaken a lethargic church from her midday slumber so that those who are called by God to reach their neighbors can hear the alarm bells and the sweet invitation once again. How? You will be asked to invest in and encourage local believers. You will have the opportunity to share the Gospel with Christian background folks. And with Muslims. Work with the local church and national partners to travel throughout the island to remote and urban areas, deep jungles, and breathtaking mountain ranges to take the Gospel where the Truth has yet to be shared. Push to the edge this summer! Basing out of a large and diverse city, you will engage the local church and share the Gospel in the city. Then you will travel to a majority-Muslim province to assist our team in making new inroads, strengthening the identity of our national partners, and encouraging believers who are living in the province, all while bringing Light and Truth to a dark place. On this trip, you can expect to share the Gospel with lost people, encounter people from various religious backgrounds, and assist team members in discipling believers. |
